Job Title: Instructor of English
Campus Location: WSCC-Sevier County Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The overall purpose of the Instructor of English is to teach freshman composition (including dual enrolment at local high schools and at various campuses as needed), sophomore literature, learning support reading and writing, special interest courses, and independent study courses.

Environmental & Working Conditions: Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations, well lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. Could be exposed to varying weather conditions when traveling.

Essential Job Functions
- Teach day and/or evening classes, both off and on campus in conventional and in alternate delivery modes (e.g., web-based, virtual, accelerated schedule).
- Participate in curriculum development, student recruiting and advising, departmental meetings and college boards and committees and perform all duties outlined in Guidelines for Faculty WSCC Policy 06:01:01.
- Regularly teach dual enrollment classes at area high schools or on campus.
- Assist in student recruitment, advising, retention, and community relations.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours in English from a regionally accredited institution.
- Higher education teaching experience in writing required; combination of high school and higher education desirable.
- Experience in teaching writing with computers (D2L, Web-CT, or writing lab setting)
- Ability to communicate and develop effective interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
- Three or more years related teaching experience.
- Teaching competence in English and applicable technology with the ability to communicate effectively and to interact with campus and community positively to develop a cohesive program.
- Empowers and motivates students to learn effectively.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills are essential.
- Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
- Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.
- Works effectively with other faculty and administrators within the department, the division, and the college to provide well-developed courses and programs of study.
- Is a team player and contributes to the department and the division with new ideas and approaches, and uses professional development opportunities to expand instructional vision.
