Position
The Comptroller of the Treasury is recruiting to fill a position within our Division of Local Government Audit. This position willbe responsible for conducting audits in the East region of Tennessee. Legislative Auditors are responsible for external audit work inaccordance with professional auditing standards. Responsibilities may include examining andreviewing records, reports, financial statements, and management practices forstate and local government entities and other organizations receiving publicfunds. Travel
For Local Government Auditors,travel is required but is generally confined to same day commutes to and from ajob site. Overnight stays may be required, as necessary.
Compensation
The Comptroller’s Office offers acompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits package that includes twelve dayseach of annual leave and sick leave, insurance plans, retirement plan,401(k), college fee waivers, and much more. The office also offers a flexible work schedule that includes an opportunity to occasionally work from home.

- The fairness of financial statement presentation,
- The adequacy of internal controls,
- Compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grantagreements, and/or
- The efficiency and effectiveness of an entity’soperations
Major responsibilities will include:
- Produce high quality work and takeownership of the various audit tasks or projects to which assigned. Work well individually and in a team environment
- Produce neat, concise, logical, andwell-supported working papers that comply with auditing standards and bestpractices
- Perform quality data analyses thataccurately support the audit opinion and findings with proper perspective
- Contribute to a results-orientedculture through active participation in meetings and collaboration withcoworkers
- Ensure that written and verbalcommunications are clear and easily understood by all stakeholders, such as theGeneral Assembly, local governing bodies, elected officials, the media,citizens of the State of Tennessee, and the federal government
- Show initiative by being responsiveto feedback and new assignments. Seek opportunities for innovation andincreased efficiency to improve and support the office’s mission to makegovernment work better
- Demonstrate continuous improvementand seek challenging work
- Make effective use of the auditee’stime, professionally represent the Comptroller’s Office, and communicateclearly to the auditee, coworkers, members of the General Assembly, and othercustomers
To perform this job successfully, anindividual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Thequalifications listed below are representative of the competency, knowledge,skill, and ability required to be a successful candidate for this position.
- Graduationfrom an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a minimum of24 semesterhours in accounting. Candidates should note that while a Certified PublicAccountant (CPA) license (requiring 30 semester hours in accounting) is notrequired for employment, the CPA license is strongly encouraged for furtheradvancement as an auditor in our office
