The Department of Correction has approximately 6500 employees operating eleven prisons, six-day reporting centers, an investigative-compliance unit and numerous probation/parole offices across the state. TDOC Central Office is located in downtown Nashville.
With the implementation of the Public Safety Act TDOC is able to provide seamless supervision to offenders in jail, prison, parole, probation, and community corrections to positively impact an offender's chances for success. Job Overview
The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) Rehabilitative Services Division includes diverse religious and volunteer services provided by hundreds of volunteers across the state. This role will provide general support for Volunteer Services as they coordinate these efforts for prisons and other TDOC facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Under general supervision, the Rehabilitative Services Intern will assist in supporting volunteer programming and onboarding efforts. These duties will include regular communication with new and existing volunteer groups, coordination with statewide facilities to support programming, tracking of volunteer services, and maintaining accurate records.
Performance Expectations
Rehabilitative Services Interns will be exposed to and expected to learn the state guidelines managing volunteers in prisons and other TDOC facilities. Interns will be expected to have a basic understanding of volunteer services, diverse faith groups, office management, and database entry (Excel). They will be expected to clearly and professionally discuss the requirements for volunteering with TDOC, maintain accurate records, work collaboratively with TDOC facilities and staff, attend meetings, and meet production deadlines regularly. The interns will be expected to integrate knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development as they observe and participate in the day-to-day operations of the TDOC Rehabilitative Services Division.
Minimum Qualifications
A student from a college or university pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, non-profit management, or any related discipline. The student must be classified as a Junior or better.
