The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgeries, ensuring a professional and courteous environment for patients and staff.
- Has the direct responsibility for scheduling procedures with the surgeon’s office personnel.
- Answers scheduling line by the third ring.
- Enters all required patient demographics and insurance information at the time of scheduling.
- Compares all information on physician order sheets to data entered in Advantx. Reconciles any discrepancies and makes notation in patient comments in Advantx.
- Works directly with the Clinical Director, or designee, to communicate any special requests, i.e., supplies, equipment for surgical procedures.
- Possesses a good working knowledge of insurance companies, i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers. Able to link appropriate carrier to each case as scheduled.
- Working knowledge of Advantx and Managed Care Grid to ensure that all procedures scheduled are approved for reimbursement.
- Completes Credentialing Form when Advantx indicates that a physician is not credentialed for that procedure.
- Possesses a good working knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures and is competent in the definition and uses relating to scheduling.
- Informs Administrator and/or Clinical Director of all problems in a timely manner.
- Works with Administrator/Clinical Director in monitoring the schedule to maximize utilization of rooms and staff.
- Maintains a professional rapport with colleagues and all other employees.
- Informs registration and clinical staff of any cancellations for that business day. Makes appropriate entry in Advantx.
- Informs registration and clinical staff of add-ons for the same business day.
- Runs Insurance Verification sheet for add-ons and assists registration in preparing chart.
- Runs Daily Power minute meetings with PWSC leaders of each department.
- Performs all duties as assigned.
Hours are 8:30am to 5pm. Monday thru Friday.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Understanding medical terminology
- ICD-9/CPT coding familiarity
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with computers
- Knowledge of Orthopaedics preferred
