The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, is seeking a visionary and experienced Senior Vice President, Public Policy and Government Relations to increase visibility, enhance relationships with lawmakers and relevant stakeholders, and create a positive image of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as the leader in food, nutrition, and health policies and promotion. Reporting to the Chief Mission, Impact Strategy Officer, the DC based Senior Vice President, Public Policy and Government Relations will lead the development and execution of nutrition and dietetics advocacy strategies for the Academy. This role involves identifying, implementing, and tracking regulatory and legislative health policy priorities at the federal and state level that enhance the professional standing of dietitians, promote Medical Nutrition Therapy, ensure food and nutrition security and access, and increase understanding and support for critical issues in food, nutrition and health.

Responsibilities :
- Work closely with the Chief, Mission, Impact and Strategy Officer and others to ensure cohesive and coordinated execution of policy and advocacy priorities across the Academy.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key policymakers, health care organizations, and other stakeholders to advance policy goals and enhance the Academy’s visibility and position as a key stakeholder in relevant policy debates. Represent the Academy and effectively communicate the organization's policy positions and advocacy efforts.
- Identify and analyze key policy issues and emerging opportunities, providing insights and developing recommendations; prepare presentations, draft / edit policy documents, testimony, and other materials to support policy and advocacy initiatives and priorities.
- Assist in development and execution of strategic Policy and Advocacy initiatives aligned with the Academy’s overall mission and goals. Routinely monitor and report on the progress of advocacy efforts, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives / priorities.
- Ensure that the Academy’s legislative and regulatory programs are aligned with the strategic plan and priorities and are in compliance with all federal and state requirements.
- Provide expert advice / counsel and leadership on state and federal government relations matters related to dietetics and food, nutrition and health.
