Duties
Performs general and emergency welding repairs and maintenance work at the plant. The work involves repairs to high- and low-pressure steam, water, oil, and air piping; reseating and repairing valves; replacing gaskets; dismantling, repairing, and assembling of equipment; the removal and replacement of parts; and assisting in the repair of general plant equipment. The work may involve metal arc, tungsten-inert gas, oxygen-acetylene torch, or other types of welding in accordance with approved welding procedures. May be assigned and will perform other work they are certified/qualified to perform.
A minor portion of the time will be spent in connection with infrequent construction work, making up of necessary job reports, and periodical checking of general operating conditions of mechanical equipment.
As assigned, the incumbent may direct the work of one or more apprentice steamfitters.
Qualifications
Should have at least four years’ experience on mechanical work of similar nature and be capable of meeting approved welding standards. Should be familiar with the installation of piping and pipe stresses and must have the ability to read simple blueprints and be able to understand and follow safety procedures. Must be certified as possessing steamfitter craft journeyman level skills.
This certification for Level II is established by successful completion of Phases 1-4 of Appendices 10 or 11 of the JTP; or through successful completion of a TVA-recognized, DOL-approved craft journeyman steamfitter apprenticeship program.
High school education or equivalent.
May be required to satisfactorily demonstrate their aptitude and ability to perform the job through a welding test, if applicable, prior to being selected.
Must be able to work various schedules and overtime as needed.
Must meet the physical and medical requirements of the job.
Must perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and abide by all safety rules and regulatory requirements.
Supervision Received
Under the direction of a foreman and the indirect supervision by first line supervisor.
Working Conditions
Work is generally performed at the Gallatin Fossil Plant. Employees are responsible for meeting the established reporting requirements of their business unit or position, which may vary based on business needs. Employees will not receive travel reimbursement to their TVA official duty station.
