JOB SUMMARY:
The primary goal of the Collections Intern will be to introduce students to the process of handling delinquent accounts through hands-on experience, learning the differences in basic accounting practices within the credit union industry; while also helping the Collections team with various tasks to ensure success within the department. This will be accomplished by job shadowing, assisting with various tasks, reviewing documents, and performing assigned projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with delinquency tracking and reporting, including analyzing delinquency trends.
- Support Collections Specialists in member communications regarding delinquent accounts, payment arrangements, and settlement negotiations.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and detailed records of collections activities and member interactions.
- Aid in the coordination of repossession activities for delinquent secured loans, working with external agencies and legal counsel as needed.
- Assist in processing bankruptcy filings and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with the Loss Mitigation team to identify and implement strategies to minimize loan delinquencies.
- Provide administrative support to the Collections Department, including filing, data entry, and document management.
- Participate in training sessions and department meetings to gain insight into collections best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of branch operations by completing Deposit Regulation and Product and Service Certification courses.
- Proactively demonstrate the TVFCU core values of integrity, honesty, flexibility, teamwork, leadership, accountability and strong relationships in every interaction with members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The TVFCU Internship Program is designed for undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds who are considering careers in business, economics, finance, accounting, marketing, information technology, human resources, and other related fields. This internship supports TVFCU’s goal of expanding access and opportunities in financial services careers for students from historically underrepresented communities.
- Candidates must be 18 years of age
- Minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale (must provide transcripts)
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors working toward a Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field
- Ability to work part-time or full-time hours for the summer (25-40 hours/week, generally 8am-5pm Monday-Friday)
- Able to commit to the full internship of 10 weeks (weekends may be required)
