Tennis Memphis (TM)
Tennis Memphis is a non-profit management and youth development organization and a 4-star chapter of the USTA National Junior Tennis and Learning Network (NJTL). TM has a successful track record over the past 20 years of managing Memphis' seven public tennis centers, offering comprehensive programs for youth, adults and seniors including USTA adult and junior league play, tournaments, clinics, lessons, mixers and more for the benefit of the public. Four of the facilities are operated year-round, while three are open seasonally. TM relies on philanthropic support from donors and local foundation grants in addition to the tennis center income and City funding.
Leftwich Tennis Center (LTC)
The fundraising for the new Leftwich Tennis Center, 12 indoor courts and 24 outdoor courts, was a coordinated effort between the City of Memphis, the University of Memphis and Tennis Memphis. It is an outstanding state-of-the-art tennis facility for the Memphis area community as well as being able to support the Memphis Tennis Association (MTA), NCAA and USTA local, regional and national events.
TM CEO Job Description
The CEO reports to a supportive and professional Board of Directors. This impactful leadership position is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, fundraising, and strategic plan for Tennis Memphis and the new world class Leftwich Tennis Center. This position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader who is passionate about leading hands-on operations, fostering growth, as well as developing and managing our mission’s programs.
Position Responsibilities:
· Creates and fosters a long-term vision for the new LTC and TM in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and other leaders.
· Establishes long and short-term goals and objectives in support of the vision of the overall organization.
· Provides thoughtful executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board.
· Provides leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans to accomplish the goals of the organization with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the new LTC and the entrepreneurial approach required to ensure it achieves its potential.
· Drives development and fundraising in collaboration with the Board to achieve the organizational objectives.
· Actively manages and oversees the organization’s operations while ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability.
· Assures that the organization makes consistent and timely progress in achieving its vision and target programmatic impact.
· Actively engages in fiscal management through hands on budgetary development and oversight to ensure all Board objectives are achieved.
· Executes policies authorized by the Board.
· Fosters and maintains positive relationships with City government, University of Memphis Athletic Department, and community leaders.
· Fosters a collaborative working environment, encourages professional development, and champions accountability amongst staff.
· Attends all Board meetings and provides reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project and organizational progress, operational performance, and financial activities.
· Communicates effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner.
· Effectively represents the organization and promotes a positive organizational image to ensure adequate community representation.
· Organizes, motivates, and mentors internal team leaders to strategically grow the organization’s impact, programs, and fundraising, and to effectively fulfill its important mission.
· Applies innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyze and support strategic decision-making.
· Continually fosters a culture that encourages collaboration between departments and recognizes positive contributions.
· Manages and motivates staff, overseeing processes such as hiring, separation, ongoing staff development, performance management, and compensation and benefits.
· Inspires a business-oriented, professional, results-driven environment across the organization.
· Performs all general management duties ensuring the successful operations of the organization.
· Maintains active and current memberships/affiliations and NJTL/Net Generation Safety compliance requirements.
· Other responsibilities as defined by the Board.
Ideal Professional Experience
· Proven leadership skills.
· Previous management experience of a large facility including a sizable staff across multiple locations, operational processes and technology, facility maintenance and financial performance.
· Experience in developing and utilizing operational and financial data to accomplish overall organizational objectives.
· Deep understanding of the MTA, USTA, NCAA and the US tennis community overall at all educational and professional levels.
· Experience attracting and running tournaments from the local community as well as large regional and national events.
· Experience with junior development programs including NJTL with a special focus on underserved communities.
· Past experience in the development and promotion of a new community asset such as the Leftwich Tennis Center.
· Strong promotional and marketing experience including the understanding of the benefits and use of social media.
· Strong interpersonal, networking and collaboration skills to effectively work within the organization, the Board of Directors, donors, community leaders, USTA, City of Memphis and University of Memphis.
· Effective presentation skills to groups of all sizes to promote LTC and TM.
· Successful fundraiser including experience with grants from governmental agencies, private foundations and family offices, individual donor campaigns, corporate sponsorships and periodic fundraising events.
· College degree preferred.
