Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.
Essential Job Functions
- Plan and teach physical education to K – 12 students.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Provide a safe, engaging environment with a focus on physical activity, social skills, and teamwork.
- Collaborate cooperatively with others regarding behavior and special education needs, resulting in improved overall treatment outcomes.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Explicitly communicate expectations for student behavior.
- Follow schedule for classes and provide additional support in the school when not instructing.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Physical Requirements
- TCC requires staff in direct care of children to be able to perform physical restraints or
containments, as necessary. Clients are age range 5-18.
Working Conditions
- This position is on campus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, Physical Education K-12 or Special Education license required.
- Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- One year of previous experience working with groups of high risk children preferred.
- All candidates must have (or qualify to obtain) a current Colorado driver’s license.
- All positions require criminal CBI background check, FBI fingerprint check, State of CO child abuse check, DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, academic credential verification, and reference check.
