Job Description
Salary: 90,000-140,000
Job Title: Estimator Department: Estimating
Reports to: Department Manager
Job Summary:
Responsible for estimating projects under the supervision of Tennyson's Senior Estimator and Estimating Manager. This includes all conceptual, negotiated, and competitive bid estimates. This position also involves interfacing with project managers, superintendents, all support teams, and client relations to achieve precise and accurate estimates.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Review specifications, drawings, and proposed project site conditions to include in final project estimate.
Review quantity take-offs to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates.
Analyze and build estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment, location, and other factors to ensure a quality and timely estimate.
Analyze alternative means and construction methods to increase competitiveness of a bid.
Utilize existing cost history as a check basis.
Apply mathematical calculations to ensure estimated costs are accurate.
Analyze risks and communicate strategies to mitigate future construction obstacles.
Present estimate/proposal to management for review to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing.
Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of project scope.
Train the Junior Estimators and review their work
Required Skills/Abilities:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Other duties:
The Estimator occasionally will be asked to run bid packets on bid days. They will also be asked to attend pre bid meetings. The Estimator will also be asked to walk contracted jobs with the PMs to ensure that the Estimates budget is as accurate as possible.

- Bachelors degree or higher in a construction related discipline
- Minimum 2 to 5 years experience in the construction industry performing responsibilities equivalent to those listed above
- Working knowledge and comprehension of blueprints, plans, specifications, as well as construction management
- Effective negotiation skills
