Job Overview:
This position oversees and manages all aspects of our multi-company accounting operations and finances. This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and preparing financial reports to help drive strategic decision-making. This role requires a strong understanding of finance and accounting principles, leadership abilities, and a commitment to operational efficiency and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Analyze financial performance and variances, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Accounting Operations & Compliance:
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws, as well as accounting standards.
- Coordinate external financial and insurance audits and ensure audit compliance.
- Maintain and implement effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting including internal audit procedures as needed.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts as requested by ownership or property managers.
- Monitor financial performance against the budget and provide variance analysis.
- Support long-term financial planning and resource allocation.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of accountants, providing direction, training, and support to ensure a high level of performance and accountability.
- Manage the recruitment, development, and performance of the accounting team.
- Tax Planning & Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and filing of hotel, sales tax and food & beverage tax returns.
- Coordinate income tax return preparation by our external tax preparers.
- Reconcile payroll tax returns from our external payroll service provider to payroll records to ensure accuracy
- Stay up to date on changes in tax regulations and implement strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to ensure that the organization has the resources needed for operations and growth.
- Provide recommendations for optimizing cash flow and financing strategies.
- Financing Activities:
- Work with ownership to secure financing as needed for all entities.
- Coordinate records related to financing activities and coordinate information flow to lenders to facilitate loan renewals and new financing.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and systems, implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Streamline workflows and automate accounting tasks where possible.
- Financial Systems Management:
- Ensure the effective use of accounting software and systems (e.g., ERP, QuickBooks, SAP).
- Oversee system upgrades, integrations, and troubleshooting to improve accounting operations.
Qualifications:
- Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial management and external stakeholders.
- Leadership and team management skills, with a focus on building and maintaining effective teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
