TICO is an equipment logistics solutions company that has been in business since 1946. While based out of Savannah, TICO has locations throughout the coast and interior United States. TICO owns and operates over 1500 Jockey Trucks/Terminal Tractors and 800 plus specialty trailers. We are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Shop Manager for our Port of Charleston location.
SUMMARY
Collaborate with Shop Manager and plan, direct, and coordinate the activities required of the regional Maintenance team to deliver the highest levels of customer service most cost-effectively while ensuring adherence to TICO standard operating procedures. Support the Shop Manager and Terminal Manager in the management and coordination of all maintenance functions. Play critical customer and employee contact role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Adhere to all Company reporting requirements. Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment while performing duties.
- Analyze and resolve or assist personnel in the resolution of work problems.
- Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Comply with Company/agency policies/procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Coordinate terminal tractors, trailers, and other equipment into the terminal shop for routine maintenance and/or repairs.
- Assist Manager with developing or revising standard operational and working practices to maximize efficiency and reduce costs.
- Develop, implement, enforce, and maintain safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures in order to comply with laws and regulations and minimize accidents and injuries.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of a variety of mandated reports, records, and files, and maintain the required documents.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and other agencies.
- Interpret and administer Company policies and safety regulations.
- Make a preliminary assessment of vehicle/equipment and arrange for necessary repairs.
- Manage the Maintenance Department employees to ensure the highest standards of service is met.
- Monitor facility maintenance and address deficiencies to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.
- Assist Manager with monitoring parts room and parts room personnel to ensure adequate supply and inventory control.
- Utilize such programs as Cummins INSITE, Windows, and Microsoft software.
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, jacks, hoists, etc. to perform maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
- Assist Manager with training and development of Maintenance Department workers.
- Utilize human resource policies to effectively manage employees.
- Observe and engage with personnel to ensure compliance with standards.
- Promote teamwork among Maintenance, Operations, and administrative departments.
- Monitor daily work schedules.
- Study schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments while minimizing the requirement for overtime.
- Prepare schedules and assign personnel to specific work activities.
- Effectively delegate responsibilities to subordinates.
- Support the Operations Department Manager by balancing the need to have equipment ready for service while ensuring equipment is available to be returned to operation.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Terminal Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Operations Manager.
- Work extended hours when deadlines must be met.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the supervision of the Maintenance Department’s mechanics, preventive maintenance technicians, fabricators, and parts department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have a strong mechanical and electrical background, Able to understand and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics. Minimum of 3 years as a lead mechanic or supervisor experience.
