Job Summary
The Quality Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability in terminal tractor manufacturing. This leadership position involves overseeing a team of quality technicians and coordinating various quality assurance and control activities across the production floor. The Quality Supervisor is responsible for implementing and maintaining rigorous quality standards, conducting comprehensive inspections, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team while collaborating with cross-functional departments to address quality issues and drive process improvements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor a team of quality technicians, including assigning tasks, providing training, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement work schedules to ensure adequate coverage for inspections and quality checks.
- Oversee and ensure the adherence to quality standards and specifications throughout the manufacturing process.
- Conduct regular audits of manufacturing processes and finished products to identify deviations from quality standards.
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures to prevent defects and ensure product reliability.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Review and approve quality documentation, including inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and corrective action plans.
- Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and operational efficiency.
- Analyze quality metrics and performance data to identify trends, root causes of issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate with engineering and production teams to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate and address quality issues and non-conformance, using root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve quality-related problems and implement long-term solutions.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for quality staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about quality standards, processes, and best practices.
- Promote a culture of quality awareness and accountability throughout the organization.
- Communicate quality-related information and updates to management and other relevant departments.
- Prepare and present quality performance reports, including metrics, trends, and improvement initiatives.
- Ensure that quality inspection and testing equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and utilized.
- Manage the inventory of quality control tools and resources to support inspection and testing activities.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Heavy equipment experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Proficiency in quality management systems and methodologies (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and experience with root cause analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret quality data and metrics.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various teams.
- Proficiency in using measurement tools and quality control software.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
Working conditions
- Working conditions may include working outside of a climate-controlled environment for long periods of time.
- PPE is required while on production floors.
Physical requirements
Walking, sitting, standing, crouching, and lifting up to 50lbs.
