What are the responsibilities and job description for the Train/Yard Master position at Terminal Switching Services?
We are currently hiring for Yard Master/Conductor
Yard Master:
This position consists of supervising all rail movements within a facility, coordinating with local management, and coordinating with fellow office peers to ensure on-time delivery of outbound trains as well as coordinating together for inbound trains. Ensure all outbound trains are fueled and serviced prior to departure. Coordinate with dispatch so as to not have any delays in train build or inbounding trains. In addition, oversee daily safety and operating practices of all switching personnel. Lead job briefings with the crew prior to work beginning. Mid-level computer experience.
No prior switching experience is necessary, but is helpful. They must also have strong leadership qualities, the ability to communicate and maintain a safety focused work environment.
Conductor:
The Conductor is responsible for the movement of rail equipment to ensure the accurate placement of rail cars that will facilitate the loading and unloading of trains in the rail yard. Responsible for assisting the Train Engineer with the movement of rail equipment (locomotives, rail cars, tracks, etc.) within the rail yard in a safe and efficient manner.
Maintain an efficient and orderly rail yard by moving rail cars and freeing rail tracks for incoming rail traffic.
Manage rail track switches to direct rail cars to appropriate tracks. Ability to connect and disconnect rail air hoses as needed to consolidate rail cars efficiently. Responsible for maintaining clear communication with Train Engineer/Operator and other crew members while moving locomotives with either verbal, hand, or radio signals.
Pre-Employment Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for employment, the following minimum requirements must be met:
Be at least 18 Years of Age.
Pass a Drug Test and a Breath Alcohol Test.
Pass a Criminal Background Check (for the last 7 years).
Provide a Valid Driver’s License and an original Social Security card.
Provide a recent DMV Driver Record (with no more than 4 traffic violations and absolutely no DUIs, reckless driving charges, and current probation within the last 5 years).
Job Type: Full-time (Thurs-Sun or Sat-Tues)
Salary: $50/70k potential.
