Terns Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a portfolio of small-molecule product candidates to address serious diseases, including oncology and obesity. Terns’ pipeline contains three clinical stage development programs including an allosteric BCR-ABL inhibitor for CML, and our metabolic franchise which includes a small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist, a THR-β agonist, and a preclinical GIPR modulator discovery effort, prioritizing a GIPR antagonist nomination candidate.
Who We Are Looking For :
The Senior Director, New Product Planning and Strategy will be a key member of Terns’ business and strategy team, reporting to the Chief Business Officer. This role will be primarily responsible for leading new product and commercial planning and strategy.
This role will be responsible for the planning, implementation and management of commercial strategy for the new product pipeline from target selection to pre-clinical product concept through human POC and path to NDA / launch. This leader will partner with cross-functional groups to define and develop portfolio planning and strategy approaches, analytics, and insights to optimize the Terns portfolio. S / he will specifically focus on providing commercial planning expertise for our oncology programs, spanning both hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, and will also oversee commercial planning efforts for the metabolic franchise.
S / he will deliver insights and recommendations to the Terns leadership team and broader organization. This role is critical to Terns’ successful achievement of corporate growth goals, and will enable robust portfolio planning and decision‐making of program teams and governance committees for new products and pipeline assets. This individual will be a key member of Terns’ business team with a primary focus on inline new product planning and commercial strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term growth strategies, development pipeline, and corporate objectives. Terns’ scope allows for great breadth of opportunity in various disease areas, requiring an exceptionally focused and engaged individual who can effectively collaborate across functions. The successful candidate will have a deep background in oncology commercial planning, ideally spanning both hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. Additional commercial planning experience for obesity / metabolic diseases preferred.
What You’ll Do :
- Lead commercial planning for Terns’ oncology (hematological malignancies) and metabolic pipelines.
- In close collaboration with cross functional team members, develop and refine target product profiles (TPPs) based upon in-depth reviews of unmet needs for disease areas under consideration, treatment pathway(s), market size, patient segmentation, competitive and payer landscapes utilizing market research and key data sources.
- Develop product positioning and messaging based on market insights and competitive landscape, and ensure alignment of clinical study designs with commercial objectives.
- Drive commercial assessments, revenue forecasts and planning for internal target selection and external asset opportunities for priority diseases as identified in collaboration with clinical, scientific and business leadership.
- Serve as strategy and commercial representative on multiple program strategy and cross functional project teams to frame and assess development options, risk, and key decision points.
- Make and support recommendations that consider trade-offs to create an integrated portfolio that aligns with strategic objectives and supports business decisions.
- Work with a cross-functional team and senior leadership to define, build, lead, and drive strategic portfolio review processes.
- Conduct regular analysis of industry trends, competitive threats, expansion opportunities and portfolio performance to inform corporate strategy.
- Support business case development by working with corporate strategy / business development to identify and implement new growth initiatives that improve organizational and financial effectiveness and build a sustainable competitive advantage.

The expected base pay for this full-time exempt position is $260 – 280K bonus equity benefits. At Terns, our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The ranges are subject to change and individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including location, skills / capabilities, experience, and available budget.
