Summary
The Senior Electrical Project Engineer leads efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget, and may include long range planning for engineering activities on complex projects or multiple major projects. The Engineer at this level exercises independent initiative and judgement in setting and implementing engineering goals and provides guidance to teams, contributing to the team's understanding of quality and how it impacts the team's domain with respect to their role. The Senior Engineer is apt to suggest alternative solutions to client problems and resolve complex challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced professional engineering in connection with major or complex engineering projects and / or multiple projects simultaneously
Complete challenging engineering computations, analysis, and lead designs from conception to completion
Prepare design packages utilizing QA / QC policy and all applicable client standard and code requirementsPrepare and oversee the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and costs for projectsPlan, schedule, and coordinate work
Assist with scope development and prepare cost estimate of new workInterface with clients and develop proposals for serviceWorks with other engineers on a project team, maintaining effective communication with project team members, other departments, contractors, suppliers, and clientsReview shop drawings and other vendor documentation for conformity with specifications and prepare technical reportsCoordinates with drafters, designers, and staff engineers within project teamLead, plan, train, and supervise the work of engineering staff; verify the work for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specificationsProvide technical expertise for discipline and serve as mentor / coach for engineering team
Manage and mentor junior engineers and support their developmentProvide support with coordination of workload and setting priorities for projects within teamPerform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparationReview and help to ensure production and quality standards are achieved by junior team members
Responsible for sealing of plans or other legal / official documentsWork cross-collaboratively and serve as lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of engineering workPerform and / or review field survey work and evaluate collected data; assist with field engineering support and inspections as neededObserve safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properlyOther duties as assignedEducation / Experience / Skills
Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited institution required (discipline in Electrical Engineering)Professional Engineer (PE) license required10 years of experience independently planning, performing, and coordinating advanced level professional and technical engineering studies, computations, drawings, reports, and surveys6 years of experience in design power engineering in the Industrial market with an understanding of control circuits preferred1-5 years of experience in the development of Power Systems Studies, such as Arc Flash Analysis, Coordination Studies, and Short Circuit Analysis using EasyPower, SKM, and / or ETAP preferred1-5 years of experience leading an engineering team through all phases of a project design and a strong ability to organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of staffAdvanced knowledge of design techniques and tools in the production of technical plans, drawings, and modelsWorking knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)Proficiency with Microsoft Office applicationsAbout TERRA Engineering
