The caregiver is a paraprofessional member of the home care team who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs personal care services as written in the plan of care to meet the client’s personal needs, to promote the client’s comfort, and a safe environment. The caregiver is responsible for observing client’s and reporting/documenting these observations and the services provided.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the Caregiver include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide personal care (as written in the plan of care), including:
- Assistance with personal hygiene, bathing and toileting activities
- Assisting the client with dressing and undressing
- Skin care to prevent breakdown
- Light housekeeping including laundry and changing bed linens
- Assistance with nutritional needs of the client, including but not limited to planning and preparing nutritious meals, feeding and assisting with grocery shopping.
- Meeting safety needs of patients and using equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, etc.) especially during transfers

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
- At least 18 years of age and is a high school graduate or equivalent.
- One-year experience in the home care setting preferred but not required.
- The ability to pass a criminal background check.
- The ability to pass the Idaho State Matrix or challenge exam (pre-qualification).
- Displays initiative and able to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Empathy for the needs of the ill, frail, and impaired.
- Demonstrates tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
- Licensed driver with automobile that is insured in accordance with the organization requirements and is in good working order.
