Interns will assist their teams in working across their department domains in information technology development and implementation for a space organization. Engineering interns will report to the engineering management team. As a Flight Software Engineering Intern will work closely with and be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team leading the cradle-to-grave technical definition of our products and missions. You will architect critical elements of mission operations, system functional behavior and performance, and detailed design for all subsystems that support innovative, high-capability small satellites. Your work will synthesize and integrate subsystems space propulsion subsystems, high data rate radios, encrypted communication devices, radar systems, phased array antennas, and other satellite payloads, to name a few.
You will collaborate with other engineering specialties (ex, software, electrical, mechanical, GNC, RF), program management, and manufacturing to develop optimal solutions to complex problems throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Salary Range $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands
An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.
Work Environment
The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Your primary responsibility is to support engineering staff in producing engineering artifacts
- Collaborate with the engineering team to implement and manage schedules, knowledge management, configurations, and change management documents
- Develop systems engineering artifacts that support requirements and architecture development; modeling and simulation; cybersecurity; network operations; interoperability; verification and validation testing; and enterprise deployment and capability monitoring
- Establish standard operating procedures that support mission assurance, risk mitigation, and contingency plans to assure required mission "up time" for all ground activities
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define interfaces; integrate mission applications and data storage; and verify Terran Orbital enterprise capabilities
- Implement life cycle systems engineering best practices
- Must be a rising junior or senior enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in an engineering or computer science, Computer Engineering discipline, or a master's student
- Ability to work full-time, on-site at our Irvine, CA location for 8 to 12 weeks during the summer
- Academic excellence (GPA of 3.0 or higher)
- 3 months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and team project experience is applicable)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office productivity tools
- Excellent collaboration and organizational skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Impeccable attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Ability to self-govern with minimal supervision, establish workload priorities, and utilize efficient time management practices to achieve assigned tasks
- Experience with C
- Experience with quad-copter projects, working with microcontrollers
- Participation in any club such as CubeSat club, Robotics club
- Hands-on experience with satellite architectures and missions as part of university team
