Terran Orbital is seeking a motivated Ground Software Systems Engineer to contribute to the Ground Systems Engineering (GSE) Team at our Irvine, CA location. Terran Orbital is a leading worldwide provider of nanosatellite and microsatellite vehicles, services, and solutions to Commercial and Government customers. The team is responsible for building and maintaining software applications and tools that enable end-to-end operations of our spacecraft as well as the entire ground segment. The Ground Systems Engineer will be a solutions engineer, supporting Terran Orbital in developing, deploying, and sustaining our Ground System and Mission Operations tools and automations.
The position requires you having experience with large scale ground systems architecture, software systems engineering processes and documentation. You will interact and coordinate daily with numerous stakeholders (Mission Operations, AI&T, Ground Software, etc.)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Mission Operations, AI&T, and Ground Software in developing tools and automation
- Provide on-call support to Mission Operations support, ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of space mission activities
- Provide on-call support to AI&T, providing software solutions for hardware testing
- Develop and implement solutions-focused strategies for system architecture and engineering activities, including system requirements, design, interface management, and data architecture
- Support various systems architecting and engineering activities such as system requirements definition, design, interface management, data architecture development, verification and validation, integration, performance analysis, lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision analysis, and physical configuration assessments
- Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Support development of system engineering items such as CONOPs, requirements definitions (or features, themes, epics), system testing, algorithm document review, and interfaces to other application development efforts
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or relevant discipline
- 3 years’ experience with Software Systems Engineering, Design, and Architecture Development
- Experience with Linux based operating systems, networking, container technologies, Python, JavaScript
- Experience with complex ground systems
- Meticulous attention to detail in design and documentation
- Excellent communication skills
Distinguishing Qualifications and Skills
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- MS or PhD in Engineering or relevant discipline
- Experience with Qradio
- Experience with microservice architecture
- Experience developing for Ground Systems and Mission Operations
- Experience with government cybersecurity requirements, CMMC preferred
- MBSE expertise and MBSE development tools (e.g. Cameo)
- Familiarity with testing aerospace flight hardware
- Developing with industry standard tool suites to include Atlassian
- Experience with space system program lifecycles, development flows, test events, and verification and validation
- Understanding of and experience with Git, CI/CD, DevOps, Cloud, Containerization, and Kubernetes

Salary Range $100,000-$130,000
Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
