Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with expertise in protein science to join our biology drug discovery team. The successful candidate will provide hands-on expertise in protein production efforts to support biochemical, biophysical, and structural biology studies. Previous experience in crystallography or other structural biology methods is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute experimental protocols in the areas of molecular biology (gene construct design) and protein expression in bacterial and insect cell lines.
- Perform protein purification (using affinity-tag, IEX, SEC) for structural and functional characterization.
- Work closely with structural biologists to crystallize protein-protein and protein-small molecule complexes.
- Explore necessary biophysical techniques to characterize protein targets or solve specific scientific problems and learn new techniques from experts in these areas.
- Collaborate with colleagues in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, computational chemistry, and medicinal chemistry to accelerate hit-finding, hit-to-lead, and lead-optimization campaigns.
- Maintain excellent record-keeping and communication among internal and external colleagues.
Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in recombinant protein expression in bacterial and insect cells for structural and functional applications.
- Knowledge in the operation of protein purification instrumentation (e.g., AKTA) and purification techniques.
- Demonstrated track record of generating high-quality recombinant protein for structural biology, biophysics, or assay development in a timely manner.
- Ability to work within a dynamic, matrixed environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with gene-to-structure pipeline or other biophysical techniques is a plus.
Education:
- MS or BS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline.
- 3 years’ experience
* The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in South San Francisco, CA is $100,000 to $114,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Terremoto Biosciences, is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
