Position Overview: The Facilities General Maintenance Worker at a Naval Base is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and infrastructure on the base. This includes performing routine inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, and other physical assets. The role ensures the base's facilities are functional, safe, and compliant with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform general maintenance on buildings, structures, and infrastructure, including but not limited to painting, patching, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work.
- Repair and maintain doors, windows, floors, ceilings, walls, and other building components.
- Troubleshoot and repair basic mechanical and electrical equipment.
- HVAC Systems:
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on HVAC systems, ensuring they are functioning efficiently and safely.
- Replace filters, lubricate moving parts, and test systems to maintain optimal performance.
- Plumbing and Electrical:
- Inspect, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including pipes, faucets, toilets, and drains.
- Perform basic electrical repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fuses, and switches, and troubleshoot electrical systems under supervision as required.
- Preventive Maintenance:
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities to prevent breakdowns.
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
- Assist with safety inspections and contribute to the development of safety protocols.
- Report unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
- Grounds and Exterior Maintenance:
- Assist with exterior maintenance, including landscaping, snow removal, and upkeep of parking lots and walkways.
- Maintain and repair exterior lighting and drainage systems.
- Collaboration and Reporting:
- Work with the Facilities Manager, supervisors, and other staff to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities.
- Provide detailed reports on work performed, materials used, and additional work required.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergency repair requests, including plumbing leaks, electrical outages, and facility breakdowns.
- Provide support during emergency preparedness drills and assist with recovery efforts following a crisis or disaster.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant technical certifications or vocational training in general maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical fields preferred.
- Previous experience in building maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Knowledge of general maintenance techniques and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and maintenance schedules.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to use maintenance tools and equipment safely.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform tasks requiring strength, flexibility, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Work will take place on the Naval Base in various building environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Some duties may require work in confined spaces, heights, or exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- On-call availability may be required for emergency situations.
Security Clearance:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by the Naval Base.
