Position Summary
The Seasonal Camp Educator guides students in week-long adventures in learning (i.e. summer camps). Camp
educators will be teaching camps for students going into grades Kindergarten through seven. In addition to
learning the curriculum and facilitation of these various camps, the duties of the Educator include building
community relationships within the camp setting, maintaining program materials, set-up and clean-up for the
daily activities, managing walking field trips. At the end of each week-long camp, educators are responsible for
the take down, inventory and resupply of camp materials. The Seasonal Camp Educator is expected to support
the museum’s vision and share the values of excellence, collaboration, innovation, respect, commitment,
accountability and ownership.
Essential Functions
- Learn developed curriculum for the seasonal camp he/she is responsible for teaching, including scientific
- Facilitate experiential curriculum.
- Prep, set-up, and clean-up any class materials each day before and after camp.
- Teach up to 24 students a week.
- Safely manage students in the museum and during walking field trips.
- Oversee and compile evaluation data.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Specialists.
Education & Experience Required
- Three to Five years of experience teaching in summer camps, informal or formal classroom setting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or art.
- Knowledge of current trends in education including project-based and inquiry-based learning.
- Must be CPR certified.
Skills Necessary
- Excellent behavior management.
- Experience integrating technology into learning experiences for children.
- Experience with basic video editing, Skype, YouTube, and various other educational technology.
- Flexibility and a good sense of humor.
- Bilingual preferred.
