Responsible for organizing and making strategic decisions about the credit and collections department, coding, and maximizing reimbursement. Establishes and maintains departmental policies and procedures, leveraging modern billing software and EHR systems to optimize revenue cycle management.
Essential Duties
Billing and Collections Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations and planning of the billing and collections department.
- Ensure billing work queues are processed and resolved within an average of 3 business days.
- Utilize data analytics to improve billing processes and reimbursement rates.
- Address client charging and billing issues unresolved by staff.
- Hire, supervise, and develop billing and collections staff.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
- Manage team performance through ongoing feedback, documented SMART goals, and KPI measurement.
- Act as liaison with collection agencies, ensuring regular performance reviews and data sharing.
- Implement refinements and efficiencies to ensure smooth information flow to/from third-party vendors and manage past due accounts within company policy timing parameters.
- Provide strategic planning and regular reporting on KPIs.
- Co-develop, implement, and evolve an accounts receivable management framework to maintain A/R balance and aging within acceptable boundaries.
- Use advanced data analytics tools to monitor and report on revenue cycle metrics.
- Identify trends and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with the Medicare "Bad Debt" write-off policy and provide necessary documentation for the annual Medicare Cost FQHC Report.
- Prepare the quarterly FQHC "Credit Balance" report.
- Produce and present monthly revenue cycle presentations for department leaders, explaining drivers of overall accounts receivable balance, cash flows, and key performance indicator fluctuations.
- Develop and implement ongoing training programs using e-learning platforms.
- Regularly review and update policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline billing processes and improve patient satisfaction.
- Manage and drive the agenda for the bi-weekly revenue cycle forum, bringing together patient financial services and clinical operations to optimize revenue cycle efficiency and drive cash flow.
- 5 years of Healthcare billing and collection experience.
- Proven direct team management experience and skills.
- Advanced competency with modern EHR and billing software.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with insurance industry regulations and procedures.
- Demonstrated success managing cross-functional, interdisciplinary partnerships.
- Bilingual writing and oral skills in Spanish and English.
- Certified Revenue Cycle Professional (CRCP) or Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP).
