Job Duties
The R&D Intern will assist in supporting design and development of medical device products through project work focused on verifying specifications, designs, fixtures, test processes, equipment and helping to ensure the concepts and/or prototypes meet their requirements. Typical job duties might include:
- Primary work location is in the R&D chemistry laboratory. Secondary work location is in an office environment.
- Handles chemicals safely in accordance with approved processes and procedures.
- Performs laboratory tasks under direct supervision.
- Performs chemical reactions, including polymerization, coupling, derivatization, and digestion.
- Performs chemical processes, including dissolution, extraction, precipitation, and filtration.
- Able to utilize general laboratory equipment independently.
- Performs analytical techniques such as NMR, HPLC and GC.
- R&D project involvement, including device design and process development
- Perform simulated use, in vitro testing to determine performance of current, competitive, and proposed products.
- Performs analysis of lab and analytical results to summarize, report, and make conclusions.
- Writes internal documentation, including test methods and procedures.
- Disposes of waste chemicals and materials following approved safety processes and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Working towards a BS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related major.
- Good knowledge of laboratory practices.
- Experience working effectively and confidently in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and organization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented approach to tasks and problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- MS Office proficiency with emphasis on Excel and Word software.
- Works with close guidance and supervision
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Computer skills including Excel and Word
- The primary work location for this position is Aliso Viejo, CA (company headquarters).
- Relocation may be available for qualified candidates.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. and not require visa sponsorship.
