Shift Hours:
Day: 6:30am-3:00pm
Swing: 2:30pm-11pm
Noc: 10:30pm-7am
*Up to $2.00 per hour in shift differential
A Certified Medication Aide or Med Tech fulfills the need of resident’s direct care, both medical and non-medical. This position assists residents with ADLs: take vital signs, bed changes, bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring, and toileting, feeding, answering call lights and medication administration. The CMA or Med Tech works in accordance with Charge Nurse’s instructions.
Essential Job Functions:
- Passes all routine and PRN oral medications
- Responsible for reordering cycle fill when due
- Reorders medications as needed in a timely fashion
- Reports any discrepancies in the MAR/TAR to the licensed Charge Nurse
- Cleans and maintains medication carts daily
- Cleans and maintains medication rooms, restocks medication room and medication rooms on a daily basis
- Assist with monthly medication counts
- Performs narcotic count at the beginning and end of each shift and signs for accuracy at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Reports to charge nurse any Member who may request PRN medication or requires Licensed Nurse assessment.
- Practices proper body mechanics, alignment, ambulation, and range of motion when needed.
- Follows established infection control guidelines
- Responsive to Member concerns, active listener
- Handles multiple priorities during peak periods, keeps worksite organized and clean.
- Assist with CNA/Caregiver assignments
- Assist CNAs/Caregivers with patient care as instructed
- Assist the nurse with infection control data gathering
- Taking vital signs
- Assist with some medical procedures

- Collecting samples for testing
- Feeding residents
- Works in accordance with Charge Nurse’s instructions
- Reports any changes of residents’ condition, unusual occurrences and/or other concerns to Charge Nurse
- Treats residents with patience and compassion in a confidential manner
- Follows written service plans
- Operates blood pressure cuff, thermometer, Hoyer lift, hospital beds, and call system
- Performs activities allowable by State rules, within scope of practice.
- Completes paperwork including touch charting if completing any ADL tasks for Member(s).
- Responsible for charging out/recording all supplies
- Keeps worksite organized and clean
- Works in all areas of the health care department as needed and/or work varied shifts as required
- Participates on the Resident Service Plan team as requested
Non-Essential Job Functions:
Perform other duties as required.
Education:
- High school education or equivalent.
- CMA certification from State Board of Nursing, if applicable
- CPR and First Aid current certification.
- Food Handlers Card.
Years/Months of Experience:
Minimum of one year working as a CNA. Prefer 6 months working as a CMA.
Knowledge / Mental / Skill Requirements:
- Knowledge of laundry, housekeeping and dietary schedules. Ability to work with these departments to schedule for the welfare of the resident.
- Strong knowledge of emergency and nursing procedures and be able to stay calm in stressful situations.
- Familiar with universal precautions and infection control practices.
- Experience working with the geriatric population.
- Experience in resident transfers.
- Experience in a long-term care facility or CCRC practices strongly preferred.
- Experience in providing outstanding customer service.
- Ability to make quick, clear judgments based on facts in calm manner with common sense and communicates issues with sensitivity to different communication styles and personalities.
- Ability to read care plans, blood pressure equipment, and thermometers.
- Knowledge of universal precautions, infection control practices, and Hazard Communications.
- Ability to work in team environment, listens and interprets, and builds relationships.
- Ability to handle high level of activity and multiple priorities in calm manner with common sense and independent action
- Ability to multi-task with tight timelines, handle multiple situations and contacts simultaneously.
- Understand, interpret and apply workplace practices and policies.

Physical Activities of the Position:
- Normally works 8 hours per shift (sitting 1 hour, standing 4 hours, and walking 3 hours), however, this may be subject to change for business or care purposes. Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during peak periods.
- Able to lift assist medium (21-50 pounds) and heavy (51-100 pounds).
- Push wheelchair or geriatric chair 100 pounds
- Position and change residents in bed and in chairs.
- Frequently (34%-66%) lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), and stooping/bending.
- Continuously (67%-100%) balancing, handling/feeling, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing.
- Occasionally (1%-33%) squatting/crouching and crawling.
- Uses both feet for repetitive movement.
