What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Facilities Reliability position at Tesla Motors?
Tesla is seeking a talented Sr. Mechanical Engineer for our facilities team at Lathrop and Fremont facilities. This role will support commissioning, startup, operations, and maintenance of facilities systems on site along with system efficiency, capacity, and quality improvements.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and troubleshoot all mechanical facilities equipment, including HVAC systems, pumps, heat exchangers, docks, and distribution systems for the following utilities, to include gas, compressed dry air, process cooling water, domestic water, and sewer. Identify and implement improvement projects
- Perform audits and studies of existing systems to determine upgrades and assist with condition assessments of existing mechanical systems
- Effectively respond and support facilities operational process issues in a 24 / 7 production setting
- Support cross functional teams to develop commissioning, startup, and operations plans for mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, air handling systems.)
- Support maintenance and reliability engineering team to increase system reliability and efficiency
- Develop project justification packages for existing and new stationary equipment. Should be able to justify new systems or equipment using ROI, total cost of ownership, reliability, performance, and energy efficiency calculations along with schedule impacts
- Create & modify maintenance and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Responsible for driving and overseeing maintenance, modifications, and expansions to existing systems; interface heavily with Design, Construction, and Installation teams to assure quality system delivery. Interact with tenants and ensure all engineering requests are effectively addressed
- Understand and apply Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) concepts and root cause failure analysis to open-ended problems
- Communicate effectively and timely to stakeholders and the required engineering team; be able to prioritize and manage a heavy workload to ensure high quality and productivity

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
