Responsibilities
- Develop and calibrate cell degradation models for different cell chemistries, based on test data in conjunction with electrochemistry knowledge
- Develop cell degradation mechanisms through analysis and interpretation of lab cycling and storage data
- Guide the development of higher fidelity degradation models for Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage products
- Interface with cross functional teams to develop relevant inputs/outputs for degradation simulations and forecasts
- Advance the overall capability and fidelity of cell degradation modeling at Tesla
- Lead a small team of Modeling Engineers
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
- Strong background in numerical methods, especially in optimization and numerical solutions of ODEs and PDEs
- 5 years' experience in developing empirical or physics-based models of dynamic systems, preferably in lithium-ion batteries and degradation mechanisms
- 5 years' programming and numerical modeling experience in MATLAB or Python
- Strong communication and cross-functional interaction skills
- Experience working with lithium-ion batteries is preferred
- Technical leadership experience is strongly desired

$136,000 - $234,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
