Tesla manufacturing team is looking for a Staff Controls Engineer responsible for managing controls team along with troubleshooting and assisting in maintenance of the equipment on the manufacturing lines. This role will be based in our Fremont 901 Page facility.

Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for all controls related activities in the shop, leading and assisting production in all controls related topics and issues
- Support and assist maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures
- Responsible for implementing and managing continuous process optimization including the addition of advanced and conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity and reduce overall waste
- Develop & maintain proper documentation of all electrical equipment and associated procedures, making updates as required by modifications
- Responsibility for designing, selecting, managing, programming, and commissioning of automation equipment used to improve the existing systems
- Identify weak areas of the production systems using root cause analysis and first principles thinking and implement effective countermeasures using all available means
- Implement and maintain quality control methods including poka-yokes, data tracking systems, part recognition and problem reporting
- Optimization and improvement of HMI, and SCADA systems
- Creation and improvements of equipment safety standards, and the implementation of those standards into the manufacturing equipment, including periodic checks and qualification inspections
- Expert in using several different programming styles, including ladder logic, structured text, etc.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Computer Engineering, or with equivalent experience
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience as a manufacturing controls engineer working with automation and electromechanical systems
- Advanced proficiency in programming industrial equipment using IEC 61131-3 languages, particularly structured text and ladder logic
- Proficiency with Industrial PC/PLC controller and development environment like Rockwell or Siemens
- Proficiency in Human Machine Interface (HMI)/SCADA systems (Ignition SCADA)
- Knowledge of Ethernet communications, script-based programming (Python, Java) preferred, motor drives like SEW EURODRIVE and field bus networks
- Ability to select and integrate circuit protectors, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, and other components
- Desire to work in a fast paced, demanding and highly collaborative environment
- Proven troubleshooting skills, root cause analysis, and problem-solving under tight timing constraints

$112,000 - $198,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
