Tesla's Megafactory Infrastructure team is looking for an experienced Commissioning Lead to oversee commissioning and startup activities for our newest Megafactory. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project commissioning and proven leadership skills. As the site commissioning lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of Tesla’s commissioning framework. This role requires high technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage and guide a team.
What You'll Do
- Lead a dynamic team that sets the example for being leaders in safety during the construction, commissioning, startup, and turnover period of bringing new assets online. This also includes leading the team to plan, manage, and prepare equipment and systems for first time startup
- Lead site commissioning activities, developing and implementing a project-specific commissioning plan for each assigned scope including incorporation of key stakeholder requirements (Project/Manufacturing/Operations/Facilities) to ensure overall team success
- Manage and communicate commissioning risks
- Oversee commissioning schedule, costs, submit funding requests, and coordinate rental equipment and material needs while maintaining the commissioning budget
- Lead and provide support & guidance during the construction & commissioning of the plants. Ensure documentation for all commissioning activities is maintained and submitted via completions database and meet all performance parameters of the plant. Monitor quality assurance initiatives including installation & assembly, alignment, cleanliness, integrity, etc. of the equipment being installed
- Ensure Tesla’s codes, standards, and specifications are followed during commissioning of mechanical activities. Drive the preparation of materials, equipment, and other resources needed for initial commissioning activities, projecting needs 3 months in advance. Work with the QA team to verify equipment inspections before installation and hold team members accountable for schedule adherence and delays affecting commissioning
- Provide Commissioning leadership in supporting / leading the completion of the Pre-Safety and Startup reviews (PSSR) and investigations and Root Cause Analysis to identify & implement sustainable corrective actions
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading commissioning operations
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing a team with a strong commitment to employee engagement and team building
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and documentation skills with ability to understand complex problems and distill the message into a clear plan
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments under pressure
- Strong background in all aspects of operating facilities including machinery, instrumentation and controls, electrical, mechanical systems, Fire Protection systems, and advanced controls across multiple technologies
- Demonstrated operations and technical skills. Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, interpret design curves of field machinery, & function checking of field equipment. Knowledgeable in process safety, health, and local environmental requirements
