What are the responsibilities and job description for the Document Control Specialist position at Tesla?
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Document Control Specialist. This position's primary responsibility is to work with the Document Control or Engineering Manager to help support the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) group at the Tesla Fremont Factory in Fremont, California. This position will support the design, planning, and execution of company infrastructure by providing the team with the necessary information to ensure successful document management. Role would support project processes and documentation from the design phase to project close out. The successful candidate will support daily management and maintenance of the document control system across all programs, implement and improve change management processes for documents, create and maintain documentation standards, report on documentation statistics, and provide trainings to internal and external team members on the system and processes.
Responsibilities
- Operate as a central contact for all document control issues, support, and ongoing management of the system
- Work with sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with the Tesla document management system
- Process critical documents and deliverables including, but not limited to : submittals, designs, drawings, calculations and other engineering or construction documents
- Maintain project correspondence (electronic and hard copies when necessary) and provide document control support to Contracts and Procurement teams
- Review incoming document transmittals and document register for nonconforming documents. Correct as necessary to ensure the register remains clean and compliant
- Create and manage approval of project documents; publish daily or weekly reports and logs identifying open workflows, mail items, submittals, and other documents requiring action
- Work with team members to ensure proper maintenance and retention of all qualifying documents and information
- Manage document control support resources for both engineering and construction management
- Provide training to project resources as part of the on-boarding process, both in person and virtual sessions
- Work with sub-contractors and suppliers during contract closeout to ensure all project documents are received prior to releasing retention payments; maintain flexibility to provide additional support as requested or required based on individual project needs

Expected Compensation
68,000 - $114,000 / annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
