What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician, Thermal Test position at Tesla?
Engineering team is looking for highly motivated entry level engineering technicians to support accelerated product durability testing. This role is very hands-on; Technicians personally assemble and disassemble vehicle components, build test fixtures, and execute tests. A successful candidate for this role must have a passion to learn and develop new skills. All team members collaborate to develop and implement effective solutions quickly.
What You'll Do
- Execute tests: setup, perform inspections, conduct maintenance, and retrofits. Using multimeters, force gauges, and torque wrenches
- Document and report issues identified during tests or inspections
- Collaborate with Engineers to resolve mechanical & electrical issues discovered
- Support Engineers in instrumentation and data acquisition
- Assist and learn from other Technicians and Engineers
- Assemble & wire test fixtures
- Collaborate with team for lab organization and usage
- Understanding of Ohms law, Kirchhoff's laws
- Use of bandsaws and a drill press for any test fabrication
What You'll Bring
- Excellent attention to detail along with written & verbal communication skills
- Analytical problem-solving skills and strong organization skills
- Working principals of common thermal components - operation, testing and characterization
- Experience using standard lab and test equipment like power supplies, DAQs, pressure transducers, flow meters, temperature sensors
- Experience with HVAC and refrigerant systems
- Ability to solder, crimp, and read wire diagrams
- Basic experience with MS office tools (Outlook/Excel/Word)
- Experience working with high voltage and low voltage components
- Previous experience with CAN communication
- Experience working on vehicle level systems
