The Chemical Operator Shift Lead will work on a rotating shift team, leading the operations shift team on field and control room chemical unit operations for safely running process systems and associated equipment during their shift, and provide data to senior operators. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, be safety conscious, display attention to detail, be adaptable, have good communication skills and be able to work in a team-based environment.
The successful candidate will safely and efficiently lead the operations shift team, and be able to operate all the equipment necessary for field and board operators. This position is responsible for ensuring operator procedures and tasks are safely executed, maximizing shift productivity, ensuring minimum staffing is met, overtime management, immediate response coordination, maintenance and material handling alignment, and shift activity coordination.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate activities for the on-shift team
- Communicate with team members regarding safety, equipment status, production, quality, and operational issues using detailed written and electronic notes
- Ensure procedure compliance to operate equipment in accordance with all safety, quality, and efficiency standards by following written and verbal work instructions
- Follow procedures to safely operate, clear, startup, shut down, and Lock Out equipment related chemical manufacturing safely and efficiently
- Coordinate immediate response to unplanned events to minimize the impact to personnel, the environment, and equipment
- Use equipment and instrumentation to monitor and record pressure, temperature, and other process conditions
- Perform initial mechanical troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime
- Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Perform material sampling
- Maintain accurate documentation
- Maintain clean and safe work areas
- Issue Permits for maintenance work
- Issue work requests for emergent work
- Complete required preventive maintenance
Requirements
- Chemical Operations experience in a PSM regulated process and/or Process Technology Associates Degree
- Emergency Response Team (ERT) training
- Shift Lead experience in a chemical production environment
- Climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent bending and lifting
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time, including a respirator and safety harness
- Pass pulmonary function tests and physical exam for respirator use
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US
- Able to successfully work on a rotating shift team
- Ability to handle tasks from initiation to completion
- Proven ability to follow procedures
- Ability to adapt to changing demands and to react positively to verbal instructions
- Ability to work overtime and weekends when required
- Desire to work hard and be dependable
- Basic understanding of computers
- Basic math skills
- Basic knowledge of controls equipment including flow meters, level sensors and pressure sensors
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Participation in a post-secondary program with focus on Chemistry
- Fork Truck training
