What are the responsibilities and job description for the Logistics Analyst position at Tesla?
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and deeply process oriented Logistics Analyst to join our growing supply chain team at Gigafactory Texas. In the Logistics Analyst role, you will manage critical domestic and international inbound supplier shipments in closed loops that support vehicle production in Texas and international shipping operations to other plants and service distribution centers. The ideal candidate has strong problem-solving skills, ability to collaborate cross-functionally, industry experience and willingness to go the extra mile to solve the problem and protect production. This role requires perfect coordination with suppliers, carriers and Tesla warehouses/yards to maintain a smooth flow of inbound material and outbound returns to ensure the production line runs around the clock. The individual needs to be comfortable working independently and making sound decisions in short notice.
What You’ll Do- Contribute to a worldwide logistics organization by executing on operational demands, standardizing processes and establishing SOPs, which requires negotiation and alignment with suppliers and transportation companies, as well as internal teams for optimal order quantity and frequency
- Work in TMS and several other internal platforms to support inbound production logistics for Gigafactory Texas, all modes (Air/Ocean/Ground)
- Monitor fleet and assign pick-ups based on driver locations, understanding how the dedicated & spot network works and driving improvements to achieve efficiencies related to cost reduction and less resources utilized. Design and coordinate reverse logistics processes and operations to ensure the highest utilization of the fleet
- Maintain yard reporting and tracking to ensure no congestion impacts the production line and that vendors get returnable packaging back in a timely fashion to support subsequent production shipments
- Negotiate spot and transactional business with suppliers and monitor performance in collaboration with procurement. Also provide input, such as volume forecast, carrier scorecard, customer service performance, to start RFQ/RFP processes in partnership with procurement
- Convert data into information or generate detailed reporting for stakeholders as requested, using SQL to retrieve data from data source and working with BI to develop dashboards as required
- Coordinate most cost-effective means to import/export goods within expected requirements. Provide all required documentation (Letter of credit, Ocean Bill of Lading, Service Report Log, etc.) for import and export functions
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Mathematics or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in high-volume manufacturing logistics, supply chain or with freight forwarder
- Knowledge of freight forwarding terms, standards and Incoterms
- Proven record of successfully implementing process improvement initiatives, including cost reduction and operational efficiency gains
- Knowledge of ERP systems, TMS included, and ability to identify gaps and work with the systems teams and leaders to introduce new functionalities that optimizes the process
- Knowledge of SQL, Tableau and python (Preferred)
- PMP, APICS, Six Sigma and/or MIT Micromasters certificate (Preferred)
