The Tesla Grand Rapids Team is looking for a highly-motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development and fabrication of high volume metal stamping dies. The mechanical designer will be creating and maintaining 2D and 3D stamping processes, contributing to simulation development, performing detail design, presenting their work in project reviews in support of the tool build processes. The candidate will also provide cross functional support and collaboration to other departments within Tesla as needed to ensure project success and to share stamping principles and expertise to new areas and teams.
What You'll Do
Simulation and Manufacturability reviews of product data Execute Tooling Design Create 2D and 3D tooling process via participation in the simulations process, modeling, and die function planning Utilize tooling process developments to design optimized tools Use developed surfaces from simulation and process creations phases to design stamping tools delivering planned function Ensure Global Standards are followed and met throughout design process As needed lead other engineers to complete project milestones Implement Engineering changes to existing tools by planning and executing design updates. Constantly strive for continuous improvement in all phases of tooling projects Support tooling projects through reviews, build and tryout, providing schedule feedback along the way to ensure on budget and on time completion
What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience Experience with Catia V5/V6 Ability to work with, and lead others within a collaborative team environment. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be flexible and able to stay open minded to environment at Tesla Driven, energetic, and willing to “get out of the box” with solutions and processes to advance manufacturing Weekend work expected as needed Travel as needed; flexibility up to 10%
