The Role
The Passive Safety Crash & Sled Test team is responsible for executing, analyzing, and reporting on crash and sled tests within required program timelines, primarily focusing on vehicle development, regulatory certification, and consumer protection crash testing. Team consists of Test Engineers and Engineering Technicians, specializing in Vehicle & Mechanical, Instrumentation & ATD (Anthropomorphic Test Devices, or crash test dummies), and Imaging.
This position will work to prepare sled bucks and test samples for sled testing, execute the testing, and teardown & analyze results from the testing.- Retrofits and rebuilds test samples as required.
- Complete seat and dummy positioning procedures using a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM)
- Use sensors and operate data acquisition systems, and still and high-speed cameras to record required test data
- Thoroughly documents test setup details and test incidents.
- Installs and removes sled test fixtures, lab equipment, and ballast weights, as required.
- Fabricates sled test fixtures as required.
- Diagnose test equipment malfunctions, repair by applying knowledge of shop mechanics using gauges, meters, hand tools, and power tools.
- Order parts and equipment as required.
- Maintain organized laboratory at all times.
- Always operate and maintain a safe working environment for all employees
Requirements
Wide variety of experience diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components on passenger vehicles. Tesla vehicle experience preferred.- Experienced in operating a wide variety of tools and shop equipment, for servicing vehicles and lab equipment. Fabrication and/or machine shop skills preferred. Ability to train others required.
- Ability to use computers effectively for diagnosis, communication, reporting (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Tesla-specific diagnostics tools)
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
- A go-getter attitude and the desire to do things right.
- Ability to maintain an organized and clean laboratory work environment. Adhere to and enforce 5S standards across the team.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines.
- Maintain top level professional integrity and appearance as a test technician.
- A minimum of 1 year working in a test laboratory, or educational equivalent.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 5% travel).
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work assigned hours as required to meet testing needs. May include overtime, nights, and weekends.
