The Technical Writer is part of Tesla's Automation Development team that is at the forefront of building innovative automation equipment. This team challenges the frontiers of traditional manufacturing, creating complex automation equipment to produce Tesla vehicles, vehicle components and energy storage products across all manufacturing areas. The Technical Writer works with a team of talented engineers and assembly technicians to develop Tesla's equipment operational, maintenance and diagnostic instructions. This role is expected to contribute to the team's mission in a rapid and exponentially growing capacity. This role is based at our Elgin, IL location but will partner with second location in Brooklyn Park, MN as well and production locations worldwide.

Responsibilities
Create and update equipment maintenance and operational manuals and manufacturing instructions for use by non-engineersCollaborate with various engineering teams to gather technical informationTest automation equipment as the end user to help identify issues and validate operation prior to deliveryUnderstand technical problems and communicate them effectively to non-technical employeesValidate information for accuracy and use a routing and review process for document approvalEdit content according to a style guide and enforce organization standardsImprove editorial and visual standards for documentation and recommend innovative designs, layouts, and formatting as neededManage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases)Travel is expected to be up to 30%, primarily domestic with a potential for some internationalRequirements

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
