What Will You Be Doing?
The Lead Telephony Engineer is responsible for implementing and managing Frontier Airlines IP telephony and related network connections including, but not limited to user access devices, telephony circuits and switches, and automated telephony systems . Duties include planning, design, procurement, and installation oversight of enterprise telephony initiatives including large implementations and telephony upgrades for Frontier Airlines facilities (e.g., stations, offices, training centers, and data centers). The Lead Telephony Engineer demonstrates expert knowledge in the application of telephony technology to accomplish organizational goals and objectives, and is a key player in selecting, developing, and implementing complex telephony systems. This position has significant visibility both within Frontier Airlines and with external vendors and partners.
Essential Functions
- Design large telephony implementations, redundant architecture, and platform upgrades for on premise and cloud-based telephony system including, but not limited to site surveys, system sizing, and coordination of internal resources and external contractors
- Design and implement VoIP systems to achieve specific business objectives using vendor and open source solutions (e.g., Avaya, Cisco)
- Provide assistance and support to department staff for programming PBX and automated telephony systems in support of Moves, Adds and Changes (MACs)
- Perform vendor management for mission-critical voice services.
- Act as a technical liaison between service providers and Frontier Airlines business units
- Perform complex troubleshooting of issues for telephony equipment and supporting systems in a 24x7x365 environment
- Oversee the integrity of the enterprise telephony environment
- Ensure the control, reliability, and performance of the telephony equipment and systems
- Recommend technologies and products that support the corporate telephony strategy comparing cost, capabilities, TCO, and SLAs
- Act as a mentor and escalation point for Tier2 telephony staff and business department leads for incident and service requests related to telephony systems
- Responsible for ensuring the day-to-day functionality and customer satisfaction of enterprise telephony services
- Experience with VoIP technology including, but not limited to Hosted VoIP, Premise-Based VoIP, SIP Trunking, ATA, CMS, IVR, and hosted and cloud-based PBX
- Voice technology includes, but are not limited to analog/IP telephones, soft phones, and mobile phones, access and transport circuits, PBX, Call Management, VoIP, IVR, ACD, and Contact Center
- Respond to day-to-day trouble tickets related to telephony
- Assist in revision of methods, tools and procedures to collect and process telephony data
- Provide technical direction to management regarding various telephony initiatives
- Experience in working closely with other Frontier Airlines internal departments to address telephony requirements
Other Functions
- Manage telephony inventory and coordinate upgrades, lifecycle replacement, and decommission of telephony technology and related equipment
- Establish relationships with external vendors and provide management recommendations on support and maintenance options
- Manage and own special projects and/or duties as assigned by telecom management for approved projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in computer science, enterprise telephony, or related discipline
- Minimum of fifteen years experience in technical fields supporting telephony services
- Expert knowledge of voice wireless services including, but not limited to VoWIFI, 5G, VoLTE/4G, 3G, and GSM
- Expert knowledge of on premise telephony equipment including PBX, SIP, cable plant, and voice circuits
- Knowledge and understanding of voice networking including IP addressing, routing, switching, and QoS
- Proficiency in open-source VoIP solutions preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to master new technologies
- Experience with an incident management tracking systems (e.g. ServiceNow)
- Ability to facilitate a climate of cohesiveness, cooperation and teamwork
- Ability to work autonomously and adapt to new or changing situations
- Ability to schedule activities and set priorities to meet deadlines and achieve business goals
- Basic knowledge of the airline industry helpful
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
