Job Summary
Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of physician. Administrative duties include scheduling appointments, chart preparation, and communicating with patients by phone. Clinical duties include but are not limited to: preparing patients for examination, taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining an electrocardiogram, collecting specimens, performing point of care testing, and giving injections.
Essential Functions
Prepares patient record ensuring all records are in the electronic chart for the physician to review. This could require navigating multiple electronic systems or obtaining records from other health care facilities following the appropriate Release of Information Protocols.
Interviews patients to obtain past medical/surgical/social/family history, reconciles medications and documents appropriately in the electronic medical record.
Obtains vital signs including height, weight, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, pulse oximetry and blood pressure.
Assists MD in the education of the patients and their families about health status, health prevention, maintenance, and management of acute and chronic ENT conditions.
Answers phone calls and documents follow up in the medical record. Assists front office staff with patient scheduling as needed.
Coordinates care across the health care continuum including follow-up appointments, referrals, and scheduling of procedures.
Communicates efficiently and effectively with RNs and providers to ensure safe and thorough patient care.
Carries out testing and specimen collection as ordered by the attending provider.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
Required: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).
Preferred: Medical Assistant certifications or Certified Nurse Assistant.
Minimum Work Experience:
Required: Prior Clinic or medical experience. Computer experience necessary.
Required Licenses: BLS required at the time of hire.
Functional Demands
Working Conditions
Clinic office setting. Frequent interruptions and stressful situations. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity needed for using calculator and keyboard. Intermittent walking, standing, sitting, lifting, bending, stretching. Must be able to lift 20 pounds.

Internal and External Contacts: All SJH staff, community members, patients and their families, community and public service agencies, allied health professionals, physicians.
