JOB SUMMARY
In conjunction with the Cardiologist, responsible for providing cardiac care services, including assessing, diagnosing,
prescribing, treating and educating patients. Works collaboratively with physicians, management, nursing, respiratory,
and other departments in a team approach to patient care. Specialized in Cardiology services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patient Care
Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews; assessing
presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; and performing appropriate
physical examination and plan of care.
Orders/performs appropriate laboratory and radiology diagnostics as well as other screening tests. Interprets these
tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians and other clinicians, for evaluation of
illness. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.
Develops and implements treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance
with medical practice guidelines and state laws.
Delegates direct/indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel.
Patient/Family Education
Instructing patients/family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health
promotion/illness prevention. Recommends appropriate community resources to meet patient/family needs.
Communicates appropriate case management information to other professionals and community agencies. Acts as
consultant/collaborator to clinical team on area of specialty. Collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to
ensure continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls/emails.
Provides excellent costumer service to internal and external customers. Provides knowledge, timely and appropriate
information to customer/patients and staff in a friendly and appropriate manner. Maintains positive peer relationships
and performs as a team player. Demonstrates respect and sensitivity to cultural and social differences in interactions
with others.
Documentation/Education
Prepares documentation for medical records including updating patient medical chart by posting examination and
test results, diagnosis, medications, and treatment in written/computerized manner in a timely fashion.
Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guidelines development, and other continuing
education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulation, policies and
procedures.
Complies with patient confidentiality requirements, HIPAA. Promotes patient advocacy. Understands and follows
state and federally mandates requirements regarding patient confidentiality and patient rights.
Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures and practice guidelines.
Knowledge
Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and
therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of
results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities.
Knowledge of current practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care and professional
ethics related to the delivery of medical care.
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
Knowledge of community, professional and educational resources.
Cardiology Specifics
Performs appropriate medical procedures within scope of practice, including but not limited to:
  • loop recorder implantation and follow up
  • CIED interrogation, interpretation, and adjustment
  • proctoring of functional studies, including stress tests, stress echoes and nuclear medicine stress
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
Required: BSN required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with advances preparation as a Nurse Practitioner.
Preferred: Masters Degree preferred. Prefer ATLS certification.
Minimum Work Experience
Preferred: Minimum of three years of professional nursing experience as a registered nurse in a clinic setting, plus two years of
nurse practitioner experience. Cardiology experience including work in clinic setting under guidance of Cardiologist.
Required Licenses: Current RN License with the authority to practice in the State of Wyoming, with certification from the State of
Wyoming as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority. Holds current DEA and controlled substance license.
Current BLS and ACLS.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions
Hospital based outpatient department and inpatient services. Frequent interruptions. Sometimes stressful work
environment. Combination of exam rooms and medical offices. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic
substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Must be
on-site at the St. John's Health campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
Physical Requirements
Standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 pounds.
Correct vision and hearing within normal range with or without use of corrective devices. Must be able to verbally
interact with staff, clients and public. Manual dexterity for writing and computer use. Requires working in emergency
situations and may involve irregular work hours including weekends, evenings, holidays and natural disasters.

Reports to: Chief Medical Group Officer
Internal & External Contacts: Staff, all hospital departments, physicians, patients, families and visitors.
