The Director of Surgical Services is an administrative leader who is responsible for implementing the organizational and departmental mission, vision, and goals for the Surgical Services Department. The Director has the oversight responsibility of all aspects of staff management, departmental management, and for creating a professional practice environment that focuses on the patient. Administrative responsibilities include review and approval of annual work-plans, budget preparation, performance reviews and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and other regulatory requirements, such as, DNV, OSHA, etc. The Director, as a Registered Nurse, practices in a surgical services specialty unit by providing nursing services and serves as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
Job Description
- Works with CNO to develop and maintain optimal patient outcomes.
- Develops an outpatient program for Teton Valley Health Care, meeting volume expectations as set by the Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Leadership Team
- Assures survey compliance and quality assurance in areas of responsibility. Notifies Chief Nursing Officer of identified learning needs.
- Works Seamlessly with providers to assure plan of care for outpatient services is provided in a safe and competent manner.
- Administer IV medication and fluids via peripherally inserted central catheters or centrally placed IV lines.
- Assists with annual budget preparation.
- Provides care within Nursing Services, working collaboratively with providers, patients, families and other health care organizations assuring a seamless disposition.
- Assures prior authorization from insurance carriers for services rendered in outpatient therapies.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of TVHC strategic objectives and assists in coordination of operational planning and related quality improvement tools. Maintains skills for effectively deploying these tools to the organization.
- Creates and communicates new ideas, messages, processes, policies, and delegation of responsibilities in a clear, precise, unbiased, and professional manner.
- Identifies, assesses and diagnoses problems through patient assessment and interactions; and evaluates actual or potential patient health problems.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Provides guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.
- Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
- Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and physicians’ orders.
- Meets regularly with the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Assists with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
- Serves and/or leads committees, as assigned, including, but not limited to, quality assurance, infection control, safety, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current State of Idaho Registered Nurse License
- Current BCLS certification
- Supervisory experience in a team leader role.
- Work experience as a professional nurse.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Basic knowledge in computer use; including email and electronic documentation
- Intermediate math skills including algebra equivalent logic and reasoning required for dosage calculations
- Ability to use standard patient care equipment including handling flammable gases
- Knowledge of use on available nursing resources such as approved textbooks and online sites for patient care
- Ability to maintain and follow guidelines, set standards of practice in quality patient care, and state, federal, and facility required infection control practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills matching our patients needs and TVHC’s mission and values

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years of PACU/OR Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- PALS certification
- Additional languages – Spanish Preferred
