Role Responsibilities
The Veteran Peer Services Coordinator is an active member of the recovery team and provides peer support services to individuals such as: service members, veterans, and their families (SMVF). This position must be able to articulate their shared recovery experiences and work as a mentor for SMVF as they identify and work towards their own goals. This position assists individuals in developing empowerment skills and combatting stigma through self-advocacy. Position duties also include providing community outreach and resources for SMVF. This position may assist with budget development and will complete monthly and quarterly reviews of all information to be reported to the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) and the Texas Veteran’s Commission (TVC). This position will supervise the provision of services by volunteers and monitor quality of services. Exemplary communication skills are required to communicate with individuals served, to accurately document service provision, and work with community partners. In addition to direct service, the person in this role may be asked to engage in program development or develop special projects. The position reports directly to the Clinic Manager/Veteran Support Services Manager. This position performs other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager/Veteran Support Services Manager. Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Must have excellent time management and organizational skills. Routine hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday with flexibility for schedule changes to allow for appointments outside of routine work hours. This position provides peer services to SMVF in the counties associated with Texana Center. Travel is required and is conducted with a Texana Center vehicle or a personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement). The Veteran Peer Services Coordinator is responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the Center compliance policy.
Salary
- 90% $17.31/hour to start;
- 95% $18.27/hour at 6 mos. with satisfactory performance
- 100% $19.231/hour at 1 year with satisfactory performance
Required Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills
- Must be a veteran
- MVPN Basic Training certified at hire or within 6 months of hire
- High School Diploma or GED
- Texas driver’s license in good standing as defined by Texana Center’s procedure
Preferred Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills
- Veteran with lived experience with mental illness and either in recovery or recovering.
- One year of work experience providing direct services within a behavioral health or social service setting
- Spanish speaking
Job Related Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform SAMA and CPR.
- Must be able to perform moderate lifting and carrying (15-44#), pushing, stooping, repeated bending, reaching above shoulder, simple grasping, hearing, walking, sitting and twisting.
- Must have ability to see, write, operate office equipment, operate a motor vehicle and have depth perception.
- Qualified individual must be able to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
