Job Description
The Business Specialist provides staff support for the full range of business activities including accounting, budget and personnel functions requiring broad general knowledge of business procedures.
Responsibilities:
-Provide business support to field programs, personnel and operations including: maintain fiscal, personnel and program records. Provide basic assistance with issues relating to HR, fiscal procedures and agency programs. Demonstrate working knowledge of various software programs including FAMIS, Workday and Microsoft Office Applications. Respond promptly and carefully to routine personnel inquiries directly - either face-to-face, electronically, by telephone or written communication.
Process and examine payment vouchers, payroll, mileage reports, credit card vouchers and travel vouchers for accuracy, completeness, eligibility and conformance with State statutes, System policies and agency policies and procedures.
Participate in agency-sponsored training programs and activities to support program initiatives. Complete appropriate employee development manual and training courses as designated in Professional Development Plan.
Provide assistance/support to program staff in delivering various field-related programs and activities including: setting up for events, copying and preparing handout materials, purchasing supplies, making arrangements with organizations, scheduling space and initiating agreements, providing support to emergency response operations, etc.
Provide support for other agency departments as needed.
May require infrequent travel in State vehicles with overnight stays.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a security-sensitive position. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with A&M System's policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual's employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.

Education and Experience:
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Education: Master's degree or equivalent in business or closely related field.
Required Experience: None
Preferred Experience: One (1) or more years in general office and customer service or accounting and customer service.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Preferred Knowledge: Working knowledge of Word, Excel, FAMIS, Canopy and Workday. Working knowledge of program operations and duties.
Required Skills: Great attention to detail. Strong Interpersonal and communication skills. Sound judgement.
Required Abilities: Ability to plan and organize. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
