Job Description

Purpose:

The Human Resources Administrator I serves as the primary Benefit Partner for Texas A&M Engineering, and as lead of the benefits team within Engineering Human Resources. This position is responsible for the workflow and coordination of duties within the benefits team and for the supervision of assigned staff.

Responsibilities:

Benefits Administration (70%)

  • Leads benefits customer service for employees and retirees of Texas A&M Engineering. Answers customer inquiries, researches questions and provides appropriate guidance and solutions.
  • Serves as liaison between customers and System Benefits Administration as needed.
  • Serves as lead Benefit Partner in the review and approval of benefits tasks through the HR/Payroll system (Workday) for employees & retirees. Processes benefit changes in Workday.
  • Oversees open enrollment for the Texas A&M University College of Engineering and Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES).
  • Runs and reviews benefit-related reports. Monitors status of benefit actions, corrects benefit records, and submits payroll deduction adjustments based on report findings.
  • Collaborates between HR and Payroll to assist with user inquires. Troubleshoots and address benefit deduction issues.
  • Monitors leave of absence benefit events, tracks payments through the billing vendor, and coordinates billing adjustments.
  • Determines retirement eligibility, conducts retirement consultations, processes all retirements in Workday for Texas A&M Engineering.
  • Prepares and distributes communications, presentations, marketing tools, website material, etc. as needed.
  • Provides benefits presentations as part of new employee onboarding and as needed for other functions.
  • Provides user training and outreach.
  • Serves on the System Employee Benefits Advisory Committee (SEBAC) as a non-voting member and conduct the bi-annual SEBAC elections for Engineering.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on system-wide councils and committees for benefit-related purposes.
  • Serves as backup on benefits compliance and reporting, including assistance with payroll retro and arrears reports.

Management (25%)

  • Manages the benefits team responsible for health benefits, retirement, leave administration, the Engineer Your Wellness program, worker’s compensation, and benefits compliance & reporting.
  • Ensures team members effectively administer benefit programs in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Communicates benefits-related changes, issues, and updates to HR leadership.
  • Oversees workload distribution within the team to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and implements enhancements to streamline benefits administration.
  • Serves as the first point of escalation for complex benefit, leave, retirement and worker’s compensation issues.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates performance, and ensures professional development of assigned staff.

Other (5%)

  • Serves as backup on Worker’s Compensation
  • Assists with Single Sign On password resets.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of related experience
