Purpose:
The Research Engineer II position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining advanced models, simulations, and digital twins to support training, operations, and decision-making to meet customer requirements of the Texas A&M Center for Applied Technology. Specific technical activities include working closely with subject-matter experts, engineers, and analysts to gather requirements, validate models, and ensure developed models, simulations, and digital twins align with real-world scenarios; designing, developing, and maintaining high-fidelity models, simulations, and digital twins that accurately represent domain specific systems, tactics, and scenarios; performing rigorous testing, analysis and validation of models, simulations, and digital twins to ensure accuracy and reliability; and developing and maintaining documentation for models, simulations, and digital twins, including user manuals, technical reports, and presentations. Candidates must be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and write clean, elegant code that maximizes functionality and efficiency. Those who are self-motivated, curious, adaptive, and exercise independent thought and judgment are the primary candidates for this opportunity. Candidates should have a desire to stay abreast of changes in technology as it relates to their work, and must be able to evaluate and identify new technologies to support projects. Candidates should be able to interface with customers to define product requirements and provide technology support as needed.

TCAT’s primary mission is the development, delivery, and insertion of technology to solve targeted problems, engaging the entire continuum of research from basic to applied. The TCAT team encompasses a wide array of expertise ranging from software and systems engineering, to user experience and visual/graphical design. Through utilization of a unique mix of knowledge and skills, TCAT can span interdisciplinary boundaries and couple its research strengths with proven capabilities and capacity to accomplish targeted challenges.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts, engineers, and analysts to gather requirements, validate models, and ensure developed models, simulations, and digital twins align with real-world scenarios. (20%)
- Design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity models, simulations, and digital twins that accurately represent domain specific systems, tactics, and scenarios using programming languages and simulation software. (20%)
- Perform rigorous testing, analysis and validation of models, simulations, and digital twins to ensure accuracy and reliability. (10%)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of models, simulations, and digital twins into the overall system design and development process. (10%)
- Provide training and support to personnel and other stakeholders on the use of models, simulations, and digital twins. (10%)
- Develop and maintain documentation for models, simulations, and digital twins, including user manuals, technical reports, and presentations. (10%)
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in modeling, simulation, MBSE, and digital twin technologies, and apply best practices to projects. (10%)
- Other duties as assigned. (10%)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience.
- Master of Science degree in Computer Science, or an accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
- Related experience in a military or defense context.
- Proven experience in modeling and simulation, MBSE, and digital twins, preferably in a complex system engineering environment.
- Experience in developing and deploying digital twins in real-world environments (e.g., military, homeland security, industrial, etc.).
- Proficiency in use of modeling and simulation tools and software, such as Simulink, SysML, and other relevant MBSE tools (e.g., GENESYS, Cameo, MagicDraw, OpenModelica, etc.).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C , Python, or Java.
- Knowledge of advanced modeling techniques such as agent-based modeling, system dynamics, etc. or military simulations (e.g., VBS3, OneSAF).
- Strong understanding of system engineering principles and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
