What We Want
Texas A&M University Libraries is seeking an dedicated individual, eager to learn and grow in their career, to join their team as the Digital Collections Librarian. The Digital Collections Librarian will enhance the discoverability, accessibility, and usability of the Libraries’ digital assets. The selected candidate, reporting to the Director of Digital Collections, will be crucial in refining and streamlining content management workflows across the Digital Asset Management Ecosystem. This role will oversee the uploading of content into platforms like Fedora Commons, DSPACE, Avalon Media System, Open Journal System, HathiTrust, and OpenOni, ensuring seamless integration and optimal organization. Collaborating closely with the Digital Project Management Team, the role also contributes to creating engaging online exhibits, showcasing the rich stories and unique value of the Libraries' collections.

Location : This is an in-person opportunity. The selected candidate will be expected to work on our College Station campus.

Required Education and Experience :
Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent education and experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent customer service skills, flexibility, and a strong commitment to accessibility, innovation, creativity, and excellence
Proven ability to develop comprehensive project documentation, process guidelines, and detailed reports
Highly developed analytical, organizational, and facilitation skills
Proven ability to quickly master scripting languages and acquire new technical skills as needed, ensuring adaptability in dynamic environments and efficiency in problem-solving
A well-qualified candidate will also possess :
Familiarity with digital imaging workflows for creating service files and derivatives
Skills with Python, Bash, or other scripting languages
Skills with XML, XSLT, RDF, and / or SPARQL
Experience with open-source publishing platforms such as Open Journal System (OJS), Manifold, and / or Janeway
Knowledge of open standards such as IIIF, OAI-ORE, OAI-PMH, and ResourceSync
Knowledge of digital preservation standards and best practices
Knowledge of structural and descriptive metadata schemas such as PCDM, DublinCore, MODs, and METS
Knowledge of digital asset management and repository software such as Fedora Commons and DSpace
Knowledge of digital exhibit platforms such as Omeka, Spotlight, CollectionBuilder, Wax, or Canopy
Responsibilities :
Administration of Digital Collections Tools : Participates in the management and administration of the Libraries digital assets management tools. Provides troubleshooting of these tools. Helps monitor for processes and ensures new collections go online as efficiently as possible. Oversees the generation of closed captioning files and AI-assisted description. Creates structural metadata for complex digital objects for in house and Hathi Trust collections. Uses in house tooling to generate presentation derivatives.
Collaboration and Investigation : Collaborates with other members of the Libraries to create new digital collections and exhibits, establish new workflows, evaluate user needs, and identify gaps in our ecosystem. Investigates new products and technologies and conducts evaluation and proof of concept work to better understand requirements and features. Assists in the development of policy and strategic plans related to the Libraries digital library program.
Documentation, Training, and Reporting : Develops documentation related to all aspects of the digital library program. Trains other staff and students on the use of digital collections applications and workflows. Creates and designs reports on usage related to digital collections.
Contributions to the Profession : Participates in scholarly activities and professional service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs. Serves on campus, library, state, and international committees as needed or requested.
