The Maternal Health Provider delivers high-quality, comprehensive obstetric care to women in rural Texas through innovative telehealth services. Provides care coordination and patient education to enhance maternal health outcomes. Assists in developing and implementing simulation training programs in rural emergency departments to equip healthcare providers with essential skills for managing obstetric emergencies.

What you need to know

Please note : This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding.

Travel : This position may require up to 50% of travel.

Schedule : This position may require work beyond normal office hours and / or work on weekends.

Required Education

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Four years of related clinical experience in obstetrics as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, including experience in managing and collaborating on high-risk pregnancies in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), telehealth practices, and electronic fetal monitoring

Required Licenses and Certifications

Active and unrestricted APRN license in the State of Texas

Board Certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC™), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC™)

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certified

BLS and NRP certified

Licensure / certification must be maintained for continued employment

Preferred Qualifications

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (NCC or AWHONN)

Board Certified in Nurse-Midwifery

Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Experience in curriculum development, simulation training, or educational program planning

Experience in medical billing / coding

Experience in ultrasonography

Experience in prenatal, childbirth, and lactation education

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of evidence-based maternal care practices and telehealth practices

Proficient in telehealth technologies, including electronic health records, remote monitoring tools, and secure communication platforms

Proficient in virtual meeting platforms, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing and ensure understanding.

Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills

Excellent presentation skills

Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups

Responsibilities :

OB Telehealth Services, Care Coordination, and Technology Utilization

Effectively utilizes telehealth technology to deliver comprehensive obstetric care to patients in rural Texas, including electronic health records, remote monitoring tools, and secure communication platforms, ensuring high-quality, accessible maternal health services.

Conducts virtual prenatal, antenatal, and postnatal consultations, including routine check-ups, assessments, and follow-ups.

Utilizes evidence-based practices to diagnose and treat common obstetric conditions and ensure continuity of care through virtual platforms.

Provides patient education and counseling on prenatal care, childbirth preparation, postpartum care, and family planning via telehealth.

Manages and coordinates care for high-risk obstetric patients, including monitoring fetal well-being and managing maternal complications.

Collaborates with rural healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, and community health workers to provide integrated, patient-centered care.

Coordinates referrals to specialty care or higher-level facilities as needed to ensure timely access to appropriate medical resources.

Fosters positive relationships with rural healthcare teams, community partners, and patients to promote a culture of trust and collaboration.

Maintains compliance with telehealth regulations, privacy policies, organizational policies to ensure secure and confidential patient interactions.

Troubleshoots technical issues related to telehealth appointments and works with IT supports as needed to resolve issues in a promptly manner.

Simulation Training and Education

Utilizes simulation equipment and tools to create realistic and educational scenarios to address common obstetric emergencies.

Assists in developing and implementing obstetric simulation training programs for rural emergency departments (EDs) to enhance maternal and neonatal care skills.

Leads and facilitates simulation training sessions and provides hands-on guidance and feedback to ED staff, including nurses, midwives, and physicians and fosters a safe learning environment for participants.

Provides mentorship and support for rural healthcare providers, offering guidance on best practices and current obstetric care practices.

Contributes to the development of educational materials, including manuals, guides, and online resources to support ongoing learning and skills development in rural EDs.

Quality Improvement, Strategic Planning, and Professional Development

Participates in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing maternal health outcomes, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Contributes to research activities related to telehealth and obstetric simulation, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to advance maternal health knowledge.

Engages in continuous professional development activities to remain current on maternal health best practices and telehealth innovations.

Participates in strategic planning and communicates routinely with leadership and colleagues to align on goals, share insights, and contribute to the overall success of the Rural Maternal Health program.
