The Transportation Maintenance Leader I is responsible for the coordination / production and deployment of signs, barricades and other devices used for traffic and pedestrian notification and control, as well as performing basic parking structure repairs. The selected candidate will assist in the support of special events and provide leadership to assigned personnel on a daily basis.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma
Five years of related experience in building or mechanical maintenance work
Required Licenses and Certifications
Valid Texas Driver’s License (Class C) or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications :
One or more years supervisory experience
Work experience emphasizing sign production, deployment, and maintenance
Experience in painting parking structures or striping parking lots
Experience backing up trailers
Extensive knowledge of the TAMU (College Station) campus and familiarity with traffic control and special events support
Other Requirements and Factors :
Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
Required to work overtime, weekends, occasional holidays, all home football games, and occasionally when campus is closed due to weather / emergencies.
This position is security sensitive.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws / codes and Texas A&M University System / TAMU policies, regulations, rules, and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to lift and / or move moderate to heavy weight objects.
May be required to stand / traverse for extended periods of time (hours may increase depending on Special Events).
Performs such tactile activities such as key punch, keyboarding, grasping, holding, wrist flexion / extension, and repetitive tasks.
Frequent lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching (including overhead), pushing, pulling, twisting, traversing, and sitting.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
Must be able to work in both hot and cold environments.
Responsibilities
Maintenance / Barricades - Assists supervisor in the execution of various tasks and duties as assigned. Said tasks may include maintenance and coordination with other units and departments. Assists supervisor, as required, by providing coordination for periodic, labor-intensive functions such as year-round special event support, football game support, pothole repairs, routine maintenance of parking structures (RV parks, garages, etc)., etc. that the unit is charged with supporting. Responsible for observing areas and items that require attention / repair such as signage, barricades, painting, as well as other opportunities across campus. Periodically assists with maintenance and repair to parking-related structures.
Special Events - Assists with periodic, labor-intensive special event functions such as football game support as needed. This may include placing and recovering signs, traffic devices, or other equipment used to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Assists supervisor as required in coordinating with Special Events and Enforcement personnel regarding signage and barricade deployment and other support necessary for special events, athletic events, fun runs, conferences, etc. Requires driving to various campus locations to set up signage and barricades. Assists supervisor, as required, to ensure proper inventory levels of devices are available for support of upcoming events. Checks email & events calendar daily for special event updates.
Leader - Responsible for leading employees that are assigned daily to include training, answering questions, reviewing procedures, providing operational feedback on a frequent basis, responsible for maintaining a positive work environment focused on customer service and dedicated to continuous improvement. Responsible for working with supervisor for guidance and assistance in accomplishing these tasks. Promotes security of vehicles, parking structures, and safety to assure that the unit follows policies and procedures.
Signage / Painting - Assists with assembling vinyl signage and installing parking lot, garage, informational, and way finding signage. Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, metal hydraulic shearing equipment, and other metalworking tools to repair or fabricate signs. Assists supervisor, as required, in coordinating the production and installation of all parking lot, garage, informational, wayfinding signage and with the prepping and assembling of vinyl signage. Periodically assists painting team with pressure washing, grinding, laying out stripes or markings, painting, applying thermo-lay traffic markings, cleaning of painting tools, painting structures, repairing woodwork, etc.
