What We Want

The Web Applications Specialist will plan and develop new and current web functionality and applications while also providing support and maintenance on new and current applications. The selected candidate will gather and analyze requirements from university departments, faculty, and staff. The Web Applications Specialist will also ensure all web functions are accessibility compliant. The selected candidate will also incorporate responsive web design and technology into all site development while managing web development using revision control software.

Salary : Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience

Schedule : The selected candidate must be able to work beyond normal office hours and / or work on weekends. This role is an on-site position in College Station.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, Computer Science, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience

At least 4 months of relevant experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Plan and develop new web functionality / applications

Provide support and maintenance on the new applications

Serve as point for new application and / or update launches

Incorporate responsive web design and technology into all site development

Maintain current web functionality / applications : correct arising issues within web functionality / applications as needed

Provide support and maintenance on all current functionality / applications

Periodically audit current web functions to ensure accessibility compliance

Perform debugging as necessary

Manage web development using revision control software

Research and recommend emerging application development technologies and tools for possible implementation in Web Services projects

Provide instruction and troubleshooting to faculty, staff, and students

Preferred Qualifications :

Three years of experience in web development / programming with relational databases to produce dynamic web-based applications strongly preferred

Three years of PHP experience strongly preferred

Experience with source web frameworks such as ASP / ASP.NET, SQL or other relational database management systems, Windows Server software, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, JSON, XML, HTML, SCSS.

Experience with debugging web including Chrome / Android and mobile Safari

Experience in consulting and / or strategy of web development / programming and in responsive web development

Responsibilities :

Web content creation and development : Plans, develops, and maintains new and current web content, functionality of applications in all content for assigned projects. Assists with defining application requirements. Provides support and maintenance on new and current applications. Verifies preliminary design and output and recommends technical design for websites, coding, and application interface. Incorporates responsive web design and technology into all site development. Manages web development using revision control software. Develops locally created tools that facilitate the use of the University website, including plan, research, code, test, and deploy. Performs occasional software development or software upgrades depending on the project. Writes, maintains, and approves code. All other duties as assigned.

Collaborative research and organization of web content : Works with staff, faculty, and other departments to determine college web content needs. Provides training and information about web content-related issues for users. Regularly collaborates with University Technology Services regarding web issues, policies, makes recommendations, and provides feedback to the College. Gathers and analyzes user feedback from university departments, faculty, and staff to incorporate into existing content modalities. Enhances web functionality / applications through regular communication with university personnel. Performs usability and user-experience development and testing.

ADA compliance : Monitors web content accessibility and maintains / corrects as needed. Works with departments to ensure all web functions are accessibility compliant as outlined by policy.
