SUMMARY:
The Ad-Interim Instructor of Communication (equivalent to Visiting Assistant Professor)at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU) is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in the BA/BS-Communication Studies program, with a particular emphasis on support courses in Sports Media. This is a non-tenure track appointment intended for the Fall 2025 through Spring 2026 terms. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach five courses (or equivalent) per semester in Communication (e.g., Mass Communication and Society, Introduction to Sports Communication, Journalism, Podcasting, Sports Writing, Strategic Communications, etc.).
- Develop and maintain up-to-date course materials, including syllabi and instructional resources.
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction in multiple formats, including online and on-campus.
- Collaborate with faculty to support interdisciplinary projects and departmental initiatives.
- Provide timely feedback and mentorship to students, supporting their academic success.
- Participate in service activities at the department, college, university, and broader community levels, as appropriate.
- Stay current with trends and advancements in communication teaching methodologies and technological tools.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Master’s degree in Communication, Media, Journalism, or a closely related field. (PhD in progress or a related terminal degree is a plus but not required for Ad-Interim appointments.)
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: .
- Professional and/or teaching experience in media, journalism, or communications.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills for effective engagement with students and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance teaching and learning (online and hybrid formats).
- Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
- Prior teaching experience in Sports Media, Strategic Communications, or related Communication topics.

- Experience providing mentorship or academic advising to undergraduate students.
- Evidence of continuing professional development in media, journalism, or communication fields.
