SUMMARY:
The Agricultural Research Worker, under supervision, supports research or teaching laboratories, farms, or ranches by performing specialized tasks. The Agricultural Research worker will work collaboratively with individuals from East Texas A&M University and Texas A&M AgriLife Research to maintain agronomic crop sites and aid in research efforts. Approximately 10% of work efforts for this position will be dedicated to Texas A&M AgriLife Research efforts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with planting, maintenance, and data collection of research plots
- Harvests crops and research field plots and records yield and other pertinent information.
- Assists lab members in conducting field experiments
- Makes field applications of fertilizer, pesticides, and experimental treatments.
- Maintain and oversee the ETAMU Agricultural Research Farm and the Fairlie Research Farm
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments in soil and crops research.
- Assist with agronomic operations Twin Oaks Farm for Experiential Learning as needed
- Assist with FFA Leadership and Career Development Events as needed (LDEs and CDEs)
- Other job related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: No experience required.
- Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
- Other Requirements: Be able to travel 15% of the time during planting and harvest
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Education skills and experience above and beyond the minimum that would be ideal but is not required:
- Tractor and heavy equipment experience
- Prior experience spraying, tilling, planting, or harvesting crops
